The secret of the durability of the Outstanding product line is CORTEN steel
In the manufacture of Kirami's Outstanding products, special steel, known as CORTEN or Cor-Ten steel, is used. The name comes from CORrosion resistance-TENsile strength. It is close to pure steel, alloyed with a small amount of copper, chromium, nickel and phosphorus. In the open air, exposed to weather conditions, i.e. the effects of oxygen and moisture, a brownish orange, rusty oxide layer is formed on it, the colour of which may slightly darken over time.
The rusty, patinated surface is vivid and rustic, giving Kirami grills, fireplaces and other outdoor structures untouched, delicate appearance. The oxide layer on the surface of the steel also protects the steel and prevents corrosion from getting deeper, making the products made of it practically weather resistant.
In ordinary steel grades, the rust layer wears off and the surface is again exposed to corrosion. This ever-recurring process gradually causes material loss, i.e. making the steel thinner. The weather-resistant CORTEN steel has an oxide surface that is compact and durable so the material loss due to corrosion is minimal. CORTEN steel requires very little maintenance and, when properly used, keeps its appearance for a long time.
Typical applications for CORTEN steel are high-density structures such as building facades, bridges, sea containers and various containers, fireboxes and chimneys. For interior decoration, CORTEN steel is suitable, for example, for authentic, which requires not only the fragility, but also the strength and durability.
The unique, rusty appearance of Kirami's Outstanding series is therefore carefully thought out and is not only a stylistic feature, but also guarantees long-lasting products in challenging conditions. These devices are not afraid of open air - they are born there.
